SHUT UP, IT'S BEEN 29 YEARS!

PATTI LUPONE! PATTI LUPONE! PATTI LUPONE! YES, THAT'S BEST ACTRESS IN A MUSICAL FOR GYPSY! It's been 29 years since she won for Evita, and the lady just wanted a little more time to give due.

From Playbill's Backstage Blog: 11:20 Patti LuPone, who won her second Tony Award (for Gypsy) nearly 30 years after her first (for Evita), said, "It's been 29 years. In that course of time, I've worked with incredible companies and people, and I thought if I did get up here, I needed to thank them as well as the [people] I'm working with now…. [Rose] is a huge part. It encompasses everything — comedy, tragedy, singing, shouting, movement. It's a range of emotions…. We go out there, and we do the best we can every single night, eight shows a week."

When asked about whether she thinks the eight-show-a-week theatre schedule should be changed, LuPone said she does not, explaining, "I am built for the theatre. I have the muscle to do eight shows a week. [The down side is I rarely get to] see my husband and my son. That's hard for me not to see my family, but there is something to be said about honoring a contract that requires eight performances a week, and showing up, and not missing, and it's muscle. And if you have it, you should be proud of it."

These are THE WINNERS AND THEY JUST HAPPEN TO BE MY FAVORITES for the 2008 TONY AWARDS.

And I saw Little Love on tv during the red carpet on NY1. And I threw a Tony Party and honestly, it was the best party I ever threw, with the best guests ever, hands down. Cosmos, champagne, a red carpet, twinkle lights, lots of laughter, cheering, standing ovations...what a damn good year for a Tony Party.

Well, at least my massive antidepressant intake helped keep me from crying too much when "that woman" won for best actress in a musical. Thank heaven for small mercies.

Oh, that last shot is phenomenal -- I love a room full of theater geeks. The shot of my short fat legs, however, I could do without :)

I was sad that Patti Lupone didn't walk the red carpet. Maybe she was nervous.
